Incase your not too familiar with Solid Surface worktops, here is a brief overview of what you should expect; The household name for Solid Surface is Corian, the market leader for over 20 years this material has pushed the boundaries of kitchen worktops for years and provides a huge range of colors, sinks and vanity bowls. Over the years the gap has been closed and other materials have come onto the market such as Lg-HiMacs, Staron and Avonite with the latter a forerunner in the stunning translucent range of Solid Surface. The biggest difference between these types of Solid Surface and your more budget modular worktops (Maia and Encore) is the thickness and versatility. Modular worktops are typically 3mm Solid Surface mounted on 38mm chipboard to give the 42mm overall thickness (including 1mm balance sheet), Corian on the other hand is 12.3mm thick and can be edged to show a thickness of what ever you feel fits your kitchen style. Some people opt for a thin sleek look while others like a chunky 60mm front edge; you can also use almost any kind of sink unlike Modular tops, which normally require the purchase of an expensive Sink Unit.
